The Blue Bag Project
Through The Blue Bag Project, we partner with healthcare organizations to bring comfort, creativity, and encouragement to children facing medical challenges. During a recent visit to Sarasota Memorial Hospital, Alexandra de Roos delivered Blue Bags to pediatric patients and met with the hospital's Child Life team to learn more about the programs supporting children and families throughout their healthcare journey.
The visit also included tours of the pediatric wing and inpatient rehabilitation unit, offering insight into the innovative therapies and compassionate care provided to patients recovering from complex medical conditions, including brain and spinal cord injuries. As a traumatic brain injury survivor herself, Alex is passionate about supporting initiatives that promote healing, resilience, and hope.
Experiences like these reinforce The Blue Project's mission: ensuring that children and families facing difficult circumstances know they are seen, supported, and never alone.
Why the Blue Bag Project was Created:
The Blue Bag Project was created to support the emotional well-being of pediatric patients as they navigate the challenges of a hospital stay. While medical care addresses physical recovery, children are also asked to navigate unfamiliar environments, uncertainty, and moments that require courage beyond their years.
Each bag is thoughtfully curated with comforting and creative items designed to ease anxiety, encourage engagement, and provide a sense of normalcy. At its core, the Blue Bag Project is rooted in a simple belief: "bravery is the first step toward resiliency." By giving children the tools to express themselves, play, and find moments of joy, these bags aim to empower them to face their circumstances with strength, confidence, and hope.
